Amar Singh Chamkila Indian singer and artist from Punjab (born July 21, 1960; died March 8, 1988). Chamkila was famous for his large vocabulary, high-pitched singing, creative songs, and great Tumbi. On March 8, 1988, Chamkila, his second wife Amarjot, and two band members were killed in a crime that has not been solved.

He was born Dhanni Ram on July 21, 1960, in Dugri, Punjab, India. His parents were Dalit Sikhs. He worked in a cloth plant in Ludhiana when his plans to become an electrician didn’t work out.
Music as a Profession
He learned to play the harmonium and dholki because he was naturally good at it. In 1978, Chamkila met Surinder Shinda for the first time while riding his bike with his best friend Kuldeep Paras. Shinda found his student when he heard Chamkila, who was 18 years old. Chamkila played with K. Deep, Mohammad Sadiq, and Shinda, who are all Punjabi folk singers. He wrote many songs for Shinda and hung out with him before going out on his own.
Taking on the Punjabi stage name Amar Singh Chamkila, which means “person who shines.” Chamkila first worked with Surinder Sonia, a female singer who had already worked with Surinder Shinda. When Shinda took Gulshan Komal on tour in Canada, Sonia felt left out. In the end, she encouraged Chamkila to make his first song. “Takue Te Takua” was made by Charanjit Ahuja in 1980. For the CD, the two sang eight songs together. People all over Punjab knew about his songs because of how well he wrote them.
In 1980, Chamkila founded his own organization because Surinder Sonia’s husband, his supervisor, was underpaying him. Chamkila had brief stage romances with Miss Usha Kiran, Amar Noorie, and others.
When Chamkila was looking for a long-term co-singer to record music with, Kuldeep Manak suggested Amarjot Kaur. Kaur had been singing with Manak sometimes and was on his most recent album. Amarjot Kaur is unknown to everyone except that she left her husband to become a singer.She started singing with Chamkila all the time and did most of his duets with him.
Chamkila mostly wrote his own songs, which were young, sexy, and romantic while also being very deep about drugs, alcohol, and adultery. Chamkila and Amarjot were shot as they left their car to attend a performance in Mehsampur, Punjab, about 2 p.m. on March 8, 1988. Couple and friends were shot and killed by motorcyclists. The killer was never identified.Radical Sikhs reportedly did it.His close friend and musician Swarn Sivia investigated the murder, disproving this. Chamkila and Swarn Sivia apologized to Militants and promised music changes. He sang Sikh hymns including “Sathon Baba Kho Laya Tera Nankana.” As, “Throughout my life, I have continued to investigate who was behind his killing.”(Swarn Sivia Said)
