Netflix releases Indrani Mukerjea series on 29 Feb CBI Stop

Netflix releases Indrani Mukerjea series after court rejects CBI’s plea

Netflix's "The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth," a documentary about the death of Sheena Bora, came out on Thursday after the Bombay High Court turned down a CBI request to stop it.

Although the CBI tried to stop Netflix from streaming the documentary series about Indrani Mukerjea, who is on trial for reportedly killing her daughter Sheena Bora, the court denied their request on Thursday.

The documentary series, called “The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth,” is about Bora, who was 25 years old. It was supposed to start on Netflix on February 23.

The CBI told the court that the documentary might have an effect on the court process, so the High Court asked the people who made the documentary to delay its release. Thursday, the court let it go because it didn’t agree with the CBI’s request for a stay until the case hearing is over.

According to reports, Mukerjea, her then-driver Shyamvar Rai, and Bora’s ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna choked her to death in a car in April 2012.

Bora was Mukerjea’s daughter from a past relationship. Burned to death in a forest in Maharashtra’s Raigad area.

After Rai confessed to the murder after being arrested in a different case, the murder became public knowledge in 2015. August 2015 saw Mukerjea’s arrest, and in May 2022, she was granted bail. Rai, Khanna, and Indrani’s ex-husband Peter Mukerjea, the other suspects in the case, are also out on bond.

The documentary might shape public opinion, which would then influence judges’ decisions, according to the CBI. The court did observe, though, that it had also seen the show and had actually believed the CBI would back down from its demand.
